27 Jul Gimcrack Stakes Prize

The Gimcrack Stakes, a Group 2 race for 2 year olds run over 6 furlongs, is one of the high spots of the York Ebor Festival.

It is generously sponsored by Al Basti Equiworld Dubai, a specialist horse feed, supplements and bedding supplier, based in Dubai, but with a global reach.

Each year they select an artist to provide 2 paintings for the Gimcrack prize, one a small study presented on the day, and a second much larger canvas, painted on commission in consultation with the winning connections, which is awarded at the Gimcrack Dinner at York in November.

I was thrilled and honoured to be approached this year Al Basti Equiworld Dubai, to provide this years trophies.

I’ve already completed the small memento (above right), and look forward to working with the eventual race-winners to provide a bespoke painting to their exact tastes.
