16 Sep Art as Race Prizes.

I was delighted recently to be asked to provide the race trophy for the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai ‘Flying Five’, a prestigious Group 1 Sprint run at the Curragh last Sunday, 11^th September. The winning connections were presented with my painting,”Sprint Finish’,  by Mr Malih Al Basti himself on the day.

This trophy was part of a wider initiative, organised by Holly Roeder and Michael O’ Hagan, Mr Al Basti’s representative abroad, in which the winners of races that Al Basti Equiworld , Dubai sponsor, are awarded more imaginative prizes than the usual , often unwanted, silver plated tray or cut glass decanter. Later this month, Al Basti Equiworld , Dubai sponsor a whole day of racing at Newmarket, and a number of winners mementos will be an artwork created locally. This pumps money back into the local community, and hopefully gives the owners a unique reminder of the day. It’s a really innovative initiative which deserves to succeed, and I’m very proud to have been asked to be part of it.
