I was delighted recently to be asked to provide the race trophy for the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai ‘Flying Five’, a prestigious Group 1 Sprint run at the Curragh last Sunday, 11th September. The winning connections were presented with my painting,”Sprint Finish’,  by Mr Malih Al Basti himself on the day.

This trophy was part of a wider initiative, organised by Holly Roeder and Michael O’ Hagan, Mr Al Basti’s representative abroad, in which the winners of races that Al Basti Equiworld , Dubai sponsor, are awarded more imaginative prizes than the usual , often unwanted, silver plated tray or cut glass decanter. Later this month, Al Basti Equiworld , Dubai sponsor a whole day of racing at Newmarket, and a number of winners mementos will be an artwork created locally. This pumps money back into the local community, and hopefully gives the owners a unique reminder of the day. It’s a really innovative initiative which deserves to succeed, and I’m very proud to have been asked to be part of it.
